Segments
-
0–5 km · 09:38
Tokyo Metropolitan Govt. Bldg. → north of Shinjuku Station → Akebonobashi → Ichigaya
You start about 41 m up at the Metropolitan Government Building and lose some 27 m by 5 km, most sharply from 3 to 3.5 km toward Akebonobashi (11 m in 500 m). The first kilometre merges several start lanes and has a few turns, so don't bank the free speed; run a touch slower than goal pace.
-
5–10 km · 10:07
Ichigaya → Iidabashi → Suidobashi → Jimbocho → Sudacho
Along the old outer moat (Sotobori) the road eases down to about 6 m by 7 km, and from there it is nearly flat to the finish. Bends at Suidobashi, Jimbocho and Sudacho reward the inside line.
-
10–15 km · 10:35
Akihabara → Ueno-hirokoji U-turn → Nihombashi → Kayabacho
Wide Chuo-dori takes you north to a U-turn at Ueno-hirokoji (10.6 km), then back down past Nihombashi (13.3 km). Ease off before the turn, and don't let the big crowds or the runners coming the other way pull your pace up.
-
15–20 km · 11:04
Hamacho → Kuramae → Asakusa Kaminarimon → Kuramae Bridge
Edo-dori heads north to loop past Kaminarimon Gate at 18.2 km, one of the loudest spots on the course. Kuramae Bridge at 20 km is a rise of about 5 m over the Sumida River and can catch the wind.
-
20–25 km · 11:32
Kuramae Bridge → Ryogoku (halfway) → Monzen-nakacho → Tomioka Hachimangu U-turn
Over the bridge, Kiyosumi-dori runs straight south to a U-turn by Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine at 23.95 km. There are several turns around the U-turn, so use this stretch to reset your rhythm after halfway.
-
25–30 km · 12:01
Monzen-nakacho → Kiyosumi-dori → Kuramae Bridge → Asakusabashi
You retrace Kiyosumi-dori north and cross Kuramae Bridge again at 28 km; at about 5.5 m it is the biggest rise of the second half. It is short, so shorten your stride over it and recover on the way down.
-
30–35 km · 12:29
Hamacho → Nihombashi → Ginza 4-chome → Hibiya
Near Nihombashi Takashimaya (31.9 km) you join Chuo-dori and turn at Ginza 4-chome (33.4 km) toward Hibiya. Ginza's crowds give a lift, but after Sukiyabashi (33.5 km) the long Hibiya-dori can funnel wind between buildings, so tuck into a group.
-
35–40 km · 12:58
Hibiya-dori → Shiba Park → Tamachi U-turn → Shiba Park
A dead-flat out-and-back past Shiba Park and Tokyo Tower, turning by Tamachi Station at 37.5 km. After the U-turn there are no big corners until Hibiya, so spend what you have evenly from here.
-
40–42.195 km · 13:10
Uchisaiwaicho → Hibiya junction → Marunouchi Naka-dori → Gyoko-dori finish
Two last turns, at the Hibiya junction (41.1 km) and around 42 km, bring you onto Gyoko-dori, the avenue between Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace. The final straight is only about 150 m, so start your kick before the last corner.

Good to know
- Race day is Sunday 7 March 2027. The marathon starts at 09:10 and the wheelchair marathon at 09:05. The cut-off is 7 hours from the gun (course closes 16:10), and official times are gun times. The official expected-time table has the last runners crossing the start line at 09:40.
- The 2027 site's course description, km-by-km location table, turning points (10.6, 23.95 and 37.5 km) and the eight provisional cut-off points are the same as the 2026 course. The downloadable map file is still the 2026 edition, so check the Runner Guidebook (due mid-February 2027) for any change. The course is certified by JAAF, AIMS and World Athletics.
- Provisional cut-offs (marathon): 4.9 km Ichigaya-Mitsuke 10:25, 9.2 km Sudacho 11:00, 15.4 km Hisamatsucho 11:55, 20.9 km Midori 1-chome 12:45, 24.7 km Fukagawa 1-chome 13:20, 29.2 km Asakusabashi 14:00, 33.5 km Sukiyabashi 14:35, 38.5 km Shiba Park Ground-mae 15:20, finish 16:10. Runners who miss one, or fall far behind, may be told to stop.
- Aid positions come from the organiser's 2026 course map; the 2027 positions are not out yet. In 2026 all 15 aid stations had water, every 5 km also had sports drink, and 20, 25 and 30 km had sponges. Snacks such as pickled plums and chocolate were at 22, 27 and 38 km, and the sponsor-supplied 'OMOTENASHI AID' food at 17, 22, 27, 32 and 38 km. A sign stands 150–300 m before each station.
- The start area is around the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku; the nearest stations are Shinjuku and Nishi-Shinjuku. There are several start lanes (Tocho-dori and Gijido-dori), and starting from a block or wave other than your own can mean disqualification. Changing tents are inside the start-area gates; don't change in station or shop toilets. Gate times and block layout come wi
- Collect your bib in person at Tokyo Marathon EXPO 2027, Tokyo Big Sight South Halls: 4–5 March 10:00–20:30 and 6 March 10:00–17:30. No proxies; photo ID is checked (passport for overseas runners). The wristband you get must stay on until the finish, and there is no race-day pickup. If you don't register in those three days, you can't run.
- Bag check is only for runners who paid for it at entry (USD 12 for overseas entries) and can't be added or changed later. The bag pick-up point depends on your bib colour.
- The finish is on Gyoko-dori in front of Tokyo Station. The area near the line is restricted, so meet family and friends at the Meet Area in the finish zone. Runners with bag check can use changing areas there. Tokyo and Otemachi stations are close by.
- Tokyo's 1991–2020 normals for 7 March (JMA) are a low of 3.9 °C and a high of 12.9 °C, so it is chilly at the start and mild later. In 2026 the organiser issued a heat advisory for a forecast high of 17 °C. Sunrise is around 06:05 (computed with the NOAA solar algorithm).
- The course has three U-turns (Ueno-hirokoji 10.6 km, Tomioka Hachimangu 23.95 km, Tamachi 37.5 km) and crosses the Sumida River twice on Kuramae Bridge, at 20 and 28 km. It drops about 35 m in the first 7 km and then stays flat at 3–10 m above sea level.
- Not published yet: the 2027 Runner Guidebook (mid-February), 2027 aid and medical positions, road closures, start blocks and gate times, and finish-area details. This page will be updated when they are out.
- Live tracking on this site supports Korean timing providers only, so it is not linked for this race.
Checklist
Course data
Converted to GPX from the route line (KML) in the organiser's public Google My Maps 'Tokyo Marathon 2026 Course Map' (Tokyo Marathon Foundation). It is the 2026 line, but the km-by-km location table, turning points and provisional cut-off points on the 2027 official site match it. All 43 km markers on the same map fall within 0.1 km of this track (most within 0.02 km), and it measures 42.19 km (−0.02%). Elevation is the official elevation profile digitised and mapped by distance, accurate to about ±2 m. Aid and medical positions come from the same 2026 map. It will be re-checked when a 2027 map is published.
